Science
We will continue our unit on Landforms and Oceans this week.

New vocabulary terms will be introduced and the student will
take AVID 2-column notes.
Developing and Using Models: Students use a sugar cube
as a rock to test the cause and effect relationship of wind
by shaking it in a container.  Students evaluate the outcome
of the procedure to describe the effect of weathering on
rocks or land.

Cause and Effect:  Students make observations of a sugar
cube that has been shaken to identify and determine how
wind causes rocks and land to be changed by a natural phenomena.
While analyzing images, they provide evidence to explain
changes that have occurred based on factors that create
weathering to happen.

Stability and Change: Students observe various changes to
land and discover changes are based on certain factors -wind,
water, temperature, and ice. And while these factors do make
changes, the process occurs over a long period of time;
therefore making rocks and land appear stable. These factors
actually make subtle changes over a long period of time.
As a class, describe the natural forces that shape landforms,
including the following:
erosion
weathering
movement of tectonic plates
movement of glaciers
deposition
fire
Students will work with a partner to find other landforms
shaped by natural forces. Each pair should draw a picture
of the landform and write a few sentences underneath
about how it was formed.

Science
We will continue our unit on Landforms and Oceans this week.
Students will be asked to define the term watershed;
Use a model to show an understanding of the term “watershed;”
and Describe how pollution can get into our waterways through
runoff. Students will use a model to create a watershed.
By observing how Surface water flow is determined by the
shape of the land, students will visually and dramatically
observe the physical characteristics of a watershed, and
investigate the impacts of human land use decisions.

Students will continue creating oceanic landforms with legos.
Students will work in small group to identify, build, and label
oceanic landforms in class.

This week, students should complete workbook pages;
Monday- 146-147
Tuesday- 118-119 and 122-123
Wednesday- 124-125
Thursday- 126-127
